CAVO TAGOO SANTORINI
★★★★★
The perfect welcome to Santorini, Cavo Tagoo was a show stopper and our show had only just begun! I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures of the floating lounges over the pool at some point while scrolling, but beyond the pool, there is so much more for your eyes and your camera lens to see! The restaurant on site, Ovac, is a culinary experience not to be missed, the cave-style rooms are the quintessential rooms for your stay in Santorini and the views are simply breathtaking.
Location: Cavo Tagoo Santorini is located in the middle of the two hot-spots on the island, in a place called, Imerovigli. This is not to be discouraged. Oia, the popular place to watch the famous sunset, is a 15 minute drive away and, Thira, the spot for more fun and nightlife, is less than 10 minutes drive away. We were only here for one night (due to the lucky wedding party that rented this fabulous location out while we were on the island), so we were happy to stay put during our stay to enjoy the restaurant, the hot tub and the relaxing stay. Getting to Cavo Tagoo from the airport we took a Mercedes Sprinter Van! I had heard it costs about $30 to get to this location and the man outside the van said he’d charge $40 and take us right away, so it was a no brainer.
Arrival: We arrived in the evening and were greeted with smiling faces at the front desk. This was our first stop of many on our Honeymoon trip, so we were very excited to finally get to Santorini! They had a welcome drink prepared for us and quickly ushered us to our room for a tour. We were shown to a large patio with a lounging area, hot tub and beautiful views of the lights from the island. We then went down a small flight of stairs into our cave room complete with a circular bed ;) Soon after the tour, a staff member brought us a complementary bottle of wine and fruit tray to celebrate our Honeymoon along with a very nice, handwritten (Brownie Points) card. A flawless execution of our greeting by a well trained and happy staff.
Restaurant: Ovac was absolutely delicious, and beautiful, and dreamy, and just downright romantic! You’re immediately mesmerized by the floor to ceiling glass windows looking out into the Aegean Sea and the lights of Oia and Thira. The setting inside is comfortable and flirty. Then, the food… The food… is… so fresh, so delicate, so inviting. I could go on and on, but in the end it was simply a treat. Our service was executed professionally with our wine being poured when we were getting low, knowledgable about the menu and very friendly, but left us alone to enjoy our first meal of our trip.
Stay: The remainder of our overnight stay included an unexpected bad-ass offering for breakfast! Once we could pull ourselves out of the comfort of our cave dwellings, we threw on our robes, took some insta photos of the sunshine appearing over the island and headed up to breakfast. At this point we enjoyed the lovely, Ovac, restaurant in the daylight. The breakfast is a full-course offering and is plenty to fill you up for a day of walking up and down stairs in Santorini. We packed up our things and the hotel was nice enough to store our bags safely while we picked up our 4-Wheeler and went for a spin over to Oia to check it out. The staff also scheduled us a ride to our next hotel in Thira for when we got back so we could transport our luggage. While we waited for our 4-Wheeler rental to arrive, we explored the pool and bar area and took advantage of the sunshine and perfect lighting for some infamous pool photos.
Overall: I could not have asked for a better first nights stay in Santorini! When we booked and saw there was only 1 night available during our stay on the island, we thought it’d be crazy to change hotels so soon, but we HAD to see what Cavo Tagoo was about and we were not disappointed. If you have more than one day here, I’m jealous :)
