A Bar Worth Swimming To

If you're planning a trip to Fiji and looking for the absolute BEST thing to do, put Cloud 9 on the top of your list! A 40 minute boat ride from the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu at Port Denarau you can find the most beautiful crystal clear waters of Vanua Malolo (Ro Ro Reef). Here floats the iconic Cloud 9.

We were staying at the Outrigger Fiji Resort on the Coral Coast of the main island. Fiji was already quite the splurge for us on our backpacking budget so it was in our best interest to remain on the mainland instead of heading out to the more expensive island resorts. We made a few friends on our first day at the pool and told them we heard about a floating bar. Intrigued and down to find this mystery bar, they invited us in their rental car the next day for a free ride out to the port about an hour and a half away. We booked tickets for a small vessel with PJ's to take all 6 of us out for $20USD per person. As a group, we weren't looking for anything fancy, simply a boat to get us from point A to Cloud 9!

One of the best parts about the whole experience is right before you get there. For 40 minutes, as far as your eyes can see, is a vast blue open ocean... then you start to see little details of the bar of your dreams getting closer and closer! The water starts to turn turquoise and the details of this bar become a reality with Cloud 9 just a step off your boat. For a minute we stood starring at everything around us. It's such a stunning location! The ambiance immediately sucks you in. The live DJ playing hip lounge music, the sun and the wind, the inviting ocean water below, the thirst quenching cocktails being shaken' at the bar, the modern decor begging to be lounged on... all of this makes you forget where you are. We scored a few beds on the top deck where we quickly found ourselves jumping off into the cool water below. This continued for hours. We couldn't get enough! It was so f k'n fun! After at least a handful of jumps and moments spent swimming the reef, that wood-fired pizza was everything we needed! Washing the pie down with a tasty margarita was icing on the cake. We felt like kids again (adult kids) just eating pizza, drinking margaritas, egging on our friends to jump off the deck all afternoon. Naturally, time flew by and it was time to go. Our boat came back for us around 4pm and we unwillingly climbed onboard.

It's always tough not knowing when you will be back to visit a place or if you will ever go back. Cloud 9 has been a memory for us for almost 2 years now and I still remember it all so clearly. The staff, the location and the overall experience is tailored to be something you'll never forget.

Cloud 9 is open daily from 10am to 5pm. They do offer private events and have a max capacity of 100 people, so make sure to call before you make your plans because you definitely don't want to be turned away.
